How to decorate your home elegantly with garlands and wreaths for Christmas

Wreaths are made to celebrate the cycles of nature and all life. And from the beginning, our editors have strived to take wreaths beyond their traditional holiday association. Over the years we have created loads of other beautiful wreaths to adorn walls and doors and hang over mantles. These wreaths have been made with all sorts of materials – natural evergreens, straw, pine cones, coffee filters, Christmas decorations, even fresh cranberries (one of Martha’s all-time favorite wreaths).

Wreaths are most often associated with Christmas, but they make beautiful decorations all year round. In autumn, a door decorated with a pinecone wreath looks warm and inviting. In winter, a cranberry wreath offers a colorful contrast to white skies and bare trees. Satin rosebuds on a ribbon-wrapped wreath add delicate details to spring events. And in summer, seashells of all shapes and sizes can be collected from the shoreline for a seaside beach house. Make new wreaths using some materials you haven’t included before: crystals, wire ribbon tied into bows, gold leaf stickers, and even dried gummy seed pods.

After a walk in the woods, try making a wreath of cedar branches you’ve collected, or make a wreath with seashells you’ve collected on the beach. With a little imagination, you can create memorable decorations all year round. The wreaths are beautiful to hang indoors or outdoors, and they are indestructible, so you can use them year after year.
